What makes New Song so special? Here's our answer: our people! Time and again we've been told by our first-time guests that they've never been in a friendlier, more welcoming church. Our people really care about you!

Some people think that church is boring. But New Song is anything but boring! Our worship is lively yet inspirational -- you really feel the presence of God. At New Song you can make friends and make a difference.

Here at New Song we offer two different styles of worship to help you to experience the presence of God.

We want to invite you to come discover New Song. We may be one of the best kept secrets in Surprise!

Rev. Lyndon R. Mason

Our Sunday morning traditional service at 9:00am offers familiar hymns while our 10:30am contemporary service is upbeat and celebratory.

A Message from Rev. Lyndon R. Mason

THE MOVE

As I stand buried in boxes consumed with thoughts of the future, the present demand for a hurried move confronts the obvious that some of the past is still to be dealt with.   Boxes from past moves that have not been cleaned out; if I haven’t used it in the last nine years I probably won’t use it.   Boxes with memories, victories in ministries, sweet memories of saints that I have loved, and hard learned lessons from failures; all of these are represented in my boxes.   What is in your boxes?  What do we do with our memories and how do these memories affect our future?

I’ll admit that there is a sense of permanence when we hang onto those bits and pieces from the past, some of those boxes hold the keys to who we are and the foundations we stand on as we face the future (many a sense of false permanence and security); but too many of them left to reside in the unexamined can cloud a future that is burgeoning with hope and new opportunities.  The past can teach us much but the present is to be lived into with a sense of joy for the newness of the present opportunities.  I am glad to be your new pastor,  I have my boxes of gifts to bring to our joint ministry together at New Song,  but you will find that I also bring a few boxes that still needs to be re-examined and sorted; God’s not done with me or us yet!

Who I am:   I was born and raised in Mesa, Arizona; a place not unlike Surprise today a mixture of rural farmland, desert and a growing city.   Graduated from ASU with a Bachelor of Science   Degree in Psychology.   Received my Masters of Theology from Iliff School of Theology at Denver University.  This year marks the beginning of my 20th year of ministry in the Desert Southwest Conference.   While in Seminary I served two years as associate pastor (student pastorate) at Evanston United Methodist Church (a former EUB church and proud of it).  After graduation from Iliff I was appointed associate at Scottsdale United Methodist for three years, Associate at Red Mountain United Methodist for four years, Senior Pastor at Wilcox United Methodist for three years, and finally before New Song the Senior pastor for nine years at St. Michael’s United Methodist.

More than a linage of churches I have three wonderful children, Lynn (21), Lelah (17), and Nathaniel (14).   I come with a new bride of one year (Maria Blanca Mason) who I met over the internet after losing my wife (Eva) of 23 years in a tragic car accident three years ago.  Maria is a Child Developmental Specialist for Harris County in Houston, Texas.  She is the mother of five children and looks forward to helping around New Song as soon as she is employed here in Maricopa County (Prayers are needed).

As I start my ministry among you I suggest that we both remember our pasts gleaning the best as we press onward and upward “building each other up in Christ.”

Grace and Peace,

Rev. Lyndon R. Mason

United Methodist Women (UMW)

A couple of articles in the Spring 2010 edition of News - United Methodist Women, caught my interest and I thought you might find them interesting:

· Every four years 10,000 to 12,000 women join together to celebrate the mission of United Methodist Women-Assembly.  This year the Assembly was held April 29 through May 1 in St. Louis, Missouri.  In 2006 the Assembly was held in Anaheim, California.  As part of this 2006 Assembly, more than 1600 prayer shawls were collected and displayed.  One of the prayer shawls made a journey from California to Texas, from Baptist to Methodist and touched the lives of several women.  Prayer shawls are again being collected at the 2010 Assembly (by Gayle Stroud).  New Song UMW has a group of women who participate in the prayer shawl ministry. They meet on the fourth Monday of the month, September through May, at the church; and

· Special Mission Recognition pins are the UMW way of honoring a person for specific and/or significant mission work.  A UMW unit in Louisiana presented a sapphire Special Mission Recognition pin to a member for her 75 years of service.

The Needlers (blankets and quilts) completed 21 quilts in April.  If you don't sew, but have a talent for combining colors to help sort material and have mastered the art of "ironing," we could use your expertise.  Also, if you have any donation of material suitable for quilts, we'll be happy to take them off your hands.

The Needlers meet on the third Saturday of the month, September through May, at the church.

We  take a break for the summer and meet again on September 25.

Special Opportunity: Help supply the sanctuary with "The Faith We Sing" songbooks:
UPDATE: We Half way there! At last count, we have ordered forty (40) copies of "The Faith We Sing" UMC songbooks based on contributions from members of the New Song Congregation and friends. We still have forty more to go.

Help New Song Church supply copies of "The Faith We Sing" hymnal for our pews. We sing many of the songs from this special songbook - but don't have any copies of the book in the pews so we can learn the music for the songs. A donation of $10 will purchase a book.
